Why Does Hamlet Procrastinate? In a situation where ones mother turns her back on you and your emotional state of mind after your father had just died and expects you to put up with the fact she has married your fathers brother within 3 months of his death†¦from a drama perspective you would be expected by a paying audience that you would go all straight away guns blazing in order to exact swift brutal revenge on the people who have, in a metaphoric sense, dropped a whole load faeces on you and your emotion. This is the situation that Hamlet is faced with in William Shakespeare’s iconic play appropriately titled â€Å"Hamlet†. A question that has arose from the play, start to finish is why does hamlet delay the inevitable blood splattered†¦show more content†¦His actions are not really a heroic approach as appose to the philosophical approach, he thinks a lot about his actions and his feelings which he himself believes to be one of his faults that he â€Å"think to precisely on the event†. Had he taken the more heroic approach he would have undoubtedly stormed in and killed Claudius straight away. Being a very aware person he also shows an awareness for his procrastination being a â€Å"John-a-dreams†. The Battle of will and duty becomes very much apparent throughout the entire situations, Hamlet lives in a society where it is deemed wrong to kill, even for revenge, but also one where duty and honour are said to prevail and he finds himself torn between what exactly is right and what exactly is wrong. Should he go with his father’s duty that has been laid upon him, or should he do the more humane thing and deal with it in a different manner, the fact he is torn between the two could be an example of why his eventual spiral into madness is apparent.
